Morpeth Town v Tayport
Friendly 090803

Tayport traveled south without 4 key players to play two  matches. Having won the first match against Top Law Town 3-0  (Ralph Hunter (17,60) and Brian Craik (35)) they headed north for the match against Morpeth Town.
On a day of high temperatures (around 88 - 92C) this was an excellent effort from the squad. Tayport, playing two trialists started the match at a strong pace. Both teams were  building from the back. It was Tayport who had the best of any early chances. In the 25th minute a trialist found the Morpeth keeper quick off his mark to save a goal scoring
opportunity. Morpeth replied with a close header which went over the crossbar. The last 6 minutes of the first period found Tayport piling on the pressure with no rewards.
Both teams were glad of the break so they could take on some well earned fluid. Second period started with a few rough challenges from the home side which eventually caught the referees attention and order was resumed.  In the 47th minute a free kick to Tayport was taken by John Elliot who flighted the ball in over the keeper to the head of Steven Stewart who sent it goal bound only to be denied by the crossbar. The rebound fell to a trialist who put it away nicely. The game continued with both teams spending time in each others penalty box.
This was a well disciplined display from Tayport and should help set them up nicely for the defense of the Super League next Saturday 16th Aug at home to Bathgate.
